 PURPOSE

Arctic Transect 2004 is striving to be the most comprehensive online adventure learning initiative to date. Based on prior adventure learning successes, firsthand sharing of dogsled expedition experiences in real-time will and have drawn both students and the public into environmental study.

PolarHusky.com is developed by experts in instructional systems and technology empowering the audience to interact and collaborate with topic experts, other users, and team members live from the field. The audience will experience the Arctic via this robust online environment, rich in multi-media tools. Through a multi-disciplinary approach they will gain in-depth knowledge of this most remote region along with their own communities as their experiences parallel those of the actual explorers. The result will be a community of learners on the Internet gaining knowledge from the expedition, the native culture, their community explorations and from each other.

By capturing the imagination and opening communication, Arctic Transect 2004 will:

  • Provide innovative educational opportunities that excite and inspire youth
  • Foster worldwide collaboration on environmental and cultural issues among students and the general public
  • Encourage respect, interest, and knowledge of and across cultural boundaries
  • Generate environmental understanding, awareness, and stewardship
  • Support appreciation of human diversity and traditional values
  • Provide professional development opportunities for teachers
