We saw the reindeer along the trail! They blend-in with the trees and the snow very well...you have to look very carefully and sometimes if you blink, you'll miss them!

Did you see pictures of the reindeer in the and Photo Journal this week?

We arrived in Sweden on February 27th and then spent some time at Fjellborg Arctic Journeys while we finished some logistics for the expedition.

We said our good-byes and departed from the home of the Keneth Fjellborg on March 6th. After many days of travel, an Education Day in a hut along the trail and time spent at Marta's, we crossed the border into Finland on Monday, March 17.

If we had simply been on the trail from the 6th, we would have crossed the border to Finland much sooner.... but if we did that, you wouldn't have the trail reports to read, all the items in the scrapbook to see, and we wouldn't have met Märta and learned so many interesting things from her.

How long did it take to get to Finland from Sweden?

As you can see by looking at the Expedition Route, we are planning on traveling 1,000 miles during GoNorth! Fennoscandia 2008. The program runs from February 11 to May 16th. We arrived in Sweden on February 27th... so we have quite a ways to go over the next 7 weeks don't we!?

How long does it take you to complete one full trip?

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

For instance, this year Paul had made connections with people in Sweden and Finland that were willing to help us. As a result, Felljborg Arctic Journies and Tamana Husky Kennels were planned-stops on our route.

Our stay with Märta was not planned. We had not had any communication with her before Mille walked in to the town of Saivomutka. It is through the kindness of strangers that we are able to stay with people like Märta, learn from them, and tell you all about it!
